What to say

Sorry I haven't written much lately. Just don't know what to say anymore. I keep reading articles about Mississippi-what I can find anyway. I keep getting more irritated about New Orleans getting all the freakin press. They get everything-like they were the only ones who were feakin hit by the hurricane! They are getting free rent everywhere, all kinds of free stuff. My mom is getting NOTHING handed to her! Nobody offering to pay her rent, no foodstamps. Is that because she can actually DO SOMETHING FOR HERSELF and most of those in New Orleans can't?? Pathetic. Makes me SO happy to have seen Mississippi's Brett Favre and the Pack beat the shit out of the Saints, 52-3. Almost like revenge. Almost. Since I am a football fan anyway.

I have been out geocaching alot. It keeps me off the computer all day(like I will be today), but it also keeps me away from cleaning house and doing things around here I should be doing(like laundry. right now. oops.). I'm up to 188 finds. I want to get to 500 by New Years Day. I need to get 25 a week, and I am not sure I can keep that number up because I have pretty much found all the really close ones. I'll need to go further and further out to get more. Well, it's still a goal. And I have to say I am a bit irked by a big group of caches that seem to be missing, and others have said so, all by the same person, and they do NOTHING about it. Guess I'll be skipping most of theirs in the future. Only way to keep from getting mad at not being able to find seemingly easy hides.

Not much else going on. Softball games, like 3 a week til the end of the month. Shame we aren't a big team, and get the crud beat out of us by girls who look to be waaaay to old to be in the league. Oh well, maybe we will end up actually being on one of those teams next season. I will be glad when its over this season though.

One more note, I am so happy that summer is FINALLY over. The cool weather is here. GO AWAY BUGS AND WEEDS!

Gulfport

Just wanted to share a link to a video: WLOX-TV - The News for South Mississippi: News-scroll down to the video for "Gulfport: Before and After Hurricane Katrina". It is heartbreaking. I will be adding a before and after section to my website eventually. When I can bring myself to do anything but sit and wish things were different.

And now Rita

Rita is now heading for my hometown of Houston. If all weren't enough already. I haven't been to Houston since I left it in 1996, but that doesn't mean I don't want to see it destroyed too. Not Galveston. Not Houston. Please head on over to the area between Beaumont and Lake Charles-there isn't as much population there. I mean, I'd feel bad for anyone who does suffer, but first my families current homes in Gulfport and Long Beach are hit by Katrina, I do not want to deal with destruction of my family homes who are still in Texas. Good grief.

And the leevees in New Orleans are failing again. As long as the Quarter is ok. And the cemeteries.

I did find another website -the USGS website, of Mississippi coastline photos. I poured over the aerial photos when they came out. Now these show the same images from a plane just above the beach. It is truly amazing.

I miss Sharkheads. I wish I had bought more stuff there. Gators-I wonder if the huge snake is ok? I never got to tour Beauvoir-pulled into the parking lot twice and decided we couldn't really afford it at the time. Shame. The Tullis-Toledano Manor home, the Grand Casino Biloxi is sitting on it now. Old Brick House is destroyed. The Hurricane Camille Memorial-seeing it just breaks my heart. Will it be rebuilt with new names added for Katrina? The SS Camille gift shop-the old Tugboat that was supposedly plopped down there by Hurricane Camille, and a gift shop was built behind it. We walked around the gift shop. I wanted Camille souvenirs(books, photos), but they were sold out that day back in October. It was pouring rain and I didn't bother to take any photos of it-I thought "I'll get it next time". The tug still lies there, the gift shop is gone. Trinity Church in Pass Christian. I took so many photos at Live Oak Cemetery across the road, but forgot the church. It is destroyed. Well, they rebuilt it after Camille, I am certain they will again. Treasure Bay-I'm not a gambler, but how can you not just LOVE seeing a Spanish Galleon ship sitting there by the beach? It just made me smile every time I saw it. My little one and I stopped by it at about 4am on our way out last October and I managed some photos of it, lit by its purple lights. Then we took a self-timer photo on the beach there. I don't take photos of myself often, but I love that one. I may post that photo-the one of Treasure Bay that is.

Arbor Station Apartments

This is where my mom lived. Well, this is the downstairs apartment, she was upstairs. The stairs on the right went up to her place. The truck-it belonged to a Seabee that lived behind her. The truck is totalled. There were at least a dozen totalled vehicles scattered about. Some were buried under the debris. The force of the water must have been tremendous. I can't even imagine it.

Dancing With Katrina

I've added a link to this blog. It's been awesome and one of the best sources of information and photos. Please check it out.

Back from Mississippi

This is probably going to take numerous entries here. Especially since I may not find all the words to use to describe how I felt seeing the coast. I am not even sure where to start.

I suppose I could first give an account of our trip. Just a day-by-day on what we did and saw and then perhaps I can try to put into words how I feel.

Friday, September 16, 2005: We left at 7:30am. It was only a half day of school for the kids so, they weren't missing anything important. There was really nothing out of the ordinary for the trip until we hit Mobile. We stopped at a gas station/Arby's to fill-up, to make sure we had enough gas to leave the area on Sunday(although that ended up not being a problem.). It was really there that we first saw any hurricane damage. The sign for the McDonald's next door was pretty mangled. It wasn't the last really mangled McD's sign we would see. My mom drove from there so I could man the video camera and digital camera on the way in to Mississippi. Still, once inside MS there was only minor damage to be seen-trees down, billboards tore up. Then we got to the Pascagoula River bridge, and the traffic due to the repair being done on one side. We sat for nearly an hour, but it really wasn't too bad. We actually listened to Jeff Foxworthy CD's all the way down to try and get as much humor in us as possible, because we knew what was coming would be extremely depressing. We finally arrived at the Naval Construction Base and then at my sister's house. The Seabee base is a few miles away from the beach, and their home only suffered some roof and siding damage. We ate dinner and rested up for the next day. No cable or even regular tv, we listened to the local radio who is spending the days giving updates and taking calls from people with questions. From what I heard, it was quite the opposite of the AM stations. Those were only New Orleans stations, and every time I listened I only heard bitching and moaning. Give me a break.

Saturday, September 17, 2005: Curfew being over at 8am, we got up, had breakfast, and got ready to go. We left the Base through the south entrance and went straight down to the railroad tracks. My sister had gotten a pass for the "south of the railroad tracks" area. You have to have a pass. There is razorwire along the tracks. Nobody in who doesn't belong. We could have gone down Railroad St to Long Beach, but we went in here at Broad Ave, which is just west of the Gulfport port. Once we got over the tracks, the real damage began. About 5 blocks from the beach, the debris was piled as high as a 2 story home. There were boats back here. Containers from the port, destroyed eighteen-wheeler trailers, piles of things that had been in those containers. And then the smell. I'm not sure what it was, but it wasn't pleasant. We got to the beach, where the familiar Domino's Pizza had been. I was overwhelmed. Absolutely nothing there. A slate wiped clean. I literally sat there in the back seat with my mouth open. I tried to take video and photos at the same time. I don't think I took nearly enough of either, but it is something burned in my head that will never leave. We drove as best we could westward on Hwy 90. Only the northside lanes are passable here. We stop here and there to sit and stare, stunned at familiar landmarks that are simply gone. We got as far as the USM campus, and the road was not passible any longer. We had to turn north, cross the tracks again, and head down to the Long Beach entrance. Once there, on Jeff Davis Ave, through downtown Long Beach, we made our way down this ravaged town. The Sonic, destroyed. Down at the beach, the Taco Bell we had enjoyed the view from back in July, gone. The pink house. The gray house at Lang. Gone. Then, we are at Arbor Station. The sign is gone, but the cell tower just beyond it(my landmark for always finding the apartments) is still standing. We turn up the drive. Garbage containers-gone. Office-gone. Front gates-destroyed. The second driveway to the left. And the building on the right. The stairs lay there on the ground, leading to the slab that was the downstairs apartment. Mom lived upstairs. There is nothing but debris in all directions. The next building north has been pushed by the 15 foot high or so pile of debris into the building behind it. We begin to walk around like zombies. Eyes down. Watching for nails and anything else that might hurt, hoping like hell to find something familiar. I wasn't wearing a watch, but I think we wandered around for at least 2 hours, maybe three. We found a mini Astros baseball bat that I had bought my nephew one of the times I had taken him to Astros games many years ago. A few pieces of my mom's wicker shelves. So much of other people's lives. Photos, dishes, video cameras, tvs, piggy banks with their change strewn about. It was just mind-numbing. We finally pulled ourselves away, and drove a little further west. Just a few blocks down was the Wal-Mart. Gutted. I loved that Wal-mart, as much as anyone can love a store like that. Nicest one I had ever been in. The huge home just past it, the one I don't think anyone ever lived in-gone. I thought for sure that one would survive a storm. Nope. And then we went back across the tracks. Now we made our way to Biloxi Cemetery. I feared the worst and was shocked that it truly was not as bad as I had imagined. Don't get me wrong, it was bad. But it appeared to be only some water damage and mostly wind knocking trees over. There were headstones near the front destroyed, scattered everywhere. There was a very rusted coffin sitting sideways on the ground. We walked across what was Hwy 90 and could see the Biloxi lighthouse. Left the cemetery, back up to Pass Road, and then left on the road leading to the Coliseum. From there we could see that the Confederate Cemetery behing Beauvoir did not seem to have much damage. It was tough to see Beauvoir from the trees, and we didn't have time to walk down the beach to it, but I know it is bad. And of course, nearly in front of the Coliseum was the Presidents Casino, not sitting in its dock 1/2 mile east, but on top of a hotel north of Hwy 90. And to the east, Treasure Bay Casino, sitting closer to the beach than it should be. I just stare in amazement. And then as if it had only been a few minutes but had been most of the day, we had to head back to the Base. A trip to the Walmart at Hwy 49 and I-10 later was almost a mistake-I've never seen a store that busy, even the days before Christmas. And again, another numbing sleepless night, listening to the radio, hearing updates on how destroyed Pass Christian was, but how positive every one there is trying to be.

Sunday, September 18, 2005: Again, waiting until curfew was over at 8am. Heading across I-10 to the apartments where my family rode the storm out. Even those there had major wind damage in places. Unfortunately my mom's car, which had been sitting here for nearly three weeks, had been sucked dry of gas-from those who needed it desperately in the days following the storm. It's tough to be mad about that. Although we did have to sit for two hours while my brother-in-law tried to find a gas can and gas so we could get going. There was more to the trip home, but nothing worth mentioning. Still thinking about the day before overshadowed nearly everything I thought or felt.

I will post pictures later. And more thoughts. And if you sat and read all that, I thank you and hope I didn't bore you.

Leaving for Mississippi

Heading down this morning to the coast. Hope to get in to Long Beach tomorrow to see the absence of mom's apartment and hope to find some belongings. Hope to get to some of the cemeteries to check on their conditions. I hear Old Biloxi is in bad shape at the front. Report and photos when I get back.

Mom's apartment

Just wanted to add a photo. It is from the Arbor Station website, the apartments where my mom lived. I made the photo a bit smaller and added an arrow showing where my mom's apartment was. Second floor. Who knows where her belongings are now.

First Katrina and now Astroworld

Just punch me in the gut why don't ya?? Closing Astroworld?? How could they? I admit, I haven't been there in 10 years-well I haven't been back to Texas since I left in September of 1996, but the memories. The memories are rushing back now. I'll being going through the scrapbooks and scanning old photos soon, adding them to the website. I hear it really has gone downhill in the past few years, but the memories are so many and so good. I was only a year older than the park, so I literally have been going my whole life and feel like I grew up there. The summer when I was 12, when mom got the job at a car lot in the area and my sister and I got season passes and were dropped off there just about every single day of the summer. It just didn't get any better than that. Those were the good times.

I am stunned into depression for the second time in two weeks. Life truly sucks right now.

Hurricane Katrina

I guess it's time I start talking about it. It's been two weeks now. Two weeks ago tomorrow, my mom, sister and two nephews came to stay in my home because they could not go to theirs. As the days went by we slowly found out that my sisters home on the Seabee base was mostly ok. My mom's apartment, at Arbor Station in Long Beach, is destroyed. Her building is nothing but a slab of concrete now. I haven't had much time on my computer as my sister spent time looking up friends, family and news. With New Orleans getting so much of the coverage on television, the news on Mississippi has pretty much only been available via the web. Thank goodness for that I guess. The few times I get to log on I've been reading the same things. The Sun Herald website, the Dancing With Katrina blog, Yahoo photos, Gulf Coast News(yeah yeah, links to come later). Anything to find out what is going on there.

I will write more later. I am devestated to learn news of places I had just been to a few months ago. Sharkheads gift shop. The Hurricane Camille Memorial in Biloxi. Treasure Bay Casino. Old Biloxi Cemetery and Pass Christian's Live Oak Cemetery. Not to mention what I see of my beloved New Orleans. I do love that place, though I'd rather be seeing more news about Mississippi. I guess no news is good news. The folks in Miss are not pointing fingers, whining or complaining and are basically taking care of themselves and already cleaning up and getting ready to rebuild. I long to go back there now.

More to come later, including photos that my sister took the day after the storm and any she takes when she goes back home.

Friday

Tried to go out and get this cache today, because it is new and at one of my favorite places in Smyrna. But there were lots of people, doing some "digging" and we just couldn't go for it.

Now I have to go get ready to set up at the flea market. Hope we make lots of money!!

Hungry.

Geocaching

Ok-I admit it-I am back addicted to Geocaching!!! Groundspeak : Profile for User: graveyard mom
I had tried to stay away from the website, and had done so successfully since January. I had other things to do. More important things. But we went to the library just over a week ago now, and they were doing a presentation on geocaching. Since I was the only other person there who knew what it was(other than the presenters-some very nice and well presented 4Hers!), I spent some time explaining more about the website and how fun it is to many other moms as the kids ran around outside chasing some fake caches. And I realized how much I missed it. Yes I did. So I went home and logged on. And saw all the new ones in my area. And grabbed the GPSr and took off. And now, a week or so later, it's all I can think of. We have actually done some other cool stuff, which I will discuss, but I wanna talk Geocaching now. We went downtown to see the Predators Draft Party. And after that was over, we had to hit some caches and benchmarks in downtown(and well, it's been way over a year since we've even BEEN downtown!). I am planning future trips around cemeteries still, but they will now include caches and benchmarks. I only wish I had gotten back in before our trip to Mississippi and New Orleans, because I think I missed out on some good ones, even just some virtuals. Ugh. So anyway....

THE NHL Yes it's back and yes I am happy. We are still pretty broke and don't think we will get to too many games. Driving all the way to Nashville, spending $10 on parking, at least $45 on tickets, and then food, etc-well we just can't do it too often. I am happy to be able to see games on tv though. We went to the draft party at the GEC(heck it was free, free tshirt and free food-can't beat that). And now all the signings(althought the Preds haven't signed anyone), Forsberg to Philly, Amonte to uh?where was it? etc etc. It should be fun figuring out who is where during the first few weeks of the season. I look forward to it. And as long as the Wings SUCK, I'll be happy! And the Blues too.

Other things-we drove around last Sunday looking for cemeteries in the southern part of Rutherford County, found a few, found some caches. We spent alot of time the past few weeks going to the library, and the kid just LOVES those people. Ms Debbie and Ms Donna are the sweetest people that ever worked a library, and maybe some of the nicest people we know! Now the summer reading is over. And it's almost time for school. Thursday the 11th, I can't wait!!

well, I should go now, the kid just asked if we could go caching. How can I say "no"?? ;)

Last weekend

We went to the IRL race at Nashville Superspeedway. Dario Franchitti won the race, Danica Patrick came in 7th. It was pretty cool. Sort of met Michael Andretti-which was awesome! Got the tix and bonux stuff-well the kid got it from the library because they love her so much!

Too much rain lately. Haven't been to a cemetery in our county in over a month! Not feeling well. Should post more, but just too bored most days, even though I have a million things to do.

Ugh.

Hurricane Dennis

Stupid hurricane. With this thing about to hit Cuba, and no certainty on its future US landfall, I decided I wanted my kid back from the Biloxi area. Better safe than sorry. The "cone of uncertainty" (or whatever they call it) included Mississippi. I was not going to leave my kid in that situation. Luckily, my mom saw it my way. We met halfway, around Tuscaloosa, on Saturday morning. Meaning we left here at 12:30am. And no, I did not get any sleep at all. And then we came home and watched the wall-to-wall coverage on Sunday. I suppose that luckily it did not hit Mississippi. Does not matter. Better safe than sorry. I could never live with myself if it HAD hit Mississippi and she was still there.

And now Dennis is here over Middle Tennessee, raining and raining. And my kid is mad because her vacation was cut short. Oh well. I've got more rants about it, but I will save them for my DH.

Mini vacation

Rested yesterday. Got back Monday, the Fourth, from our mini-vacation. We went down on Thursday evening to take the kid to my sister's place in Gulfport.

So we left here at about 6:40pm. Stopped at the Alabama welcome center with the Saturn rocket. That's cool. I think we finally got to my mom's place in Long Beach at about 3am. The people in Alabama drive 2 ways on the freeway-way below the speed limit, or WAY above it! I think we were the only car in the state actually doing the SPEED LIMIT.

We slept for a few hours and then got up and went over to my sister's place on the Naval Base. After awhile, hubby and I went out. we went to eat at Whataburger-which I miss from Texas. Then we went to the Biloxi Old City Cemetery. Then down to Pass Christian and the Live Oak Cemetery. Then we walked along the beach and found the benchmark in Long Beach along the seawall. We had been out awhile, so we stopped and ate dinner at Taco Bell. Yummmmm. Overlooking the Gulf at that. Went back to sis's place and chilled for awhile. Tried to watch the Busch race, but Truex won and I can't stand him. Bummer. Went to bed, but our air mattress has a leak. So we were sleeping flat on the floor by morning.

Saturday, hubby and I got up early and headed for New Orleans. We stopped first at Cafe Dumond for begneits. I love that place! We grabbed some tourist info, walked around Jackson Square and headed back to the car. I coulda swore that we were there less than an hour, but it must have been just over-and EIGHT BUCKS for parking is a crime! Only part that sucked really. So then we head out Canal St(since the tourist guy told us NOT to go to St Louis #2 cemetery-where I had wanted to go) to Metairie. We went to Greenwood Cemetery first. So much to see, so little time. Took tons of pix and then headed across I-10 to Metairie Cemetery. I love that one! The monuments are amazing. Again, so much to see, so little time-but I think we spent three hours in the area between the 2 cemeteries. Found the graves of Generals John Bell Hood and Taylor( Pres Zack Taylors son). We finally drew ourself away and headed out to Oak Alley Plantation. There is NO place to eat once you get across the Mississippi River and on to River Road. So we were starving by the time we got there. And they had a resteraunt. Now I'm not usually into fancy eating places and expansive food-BUT the chicken po'boy there was FAN------TASTIC!!! I'm getting hungry now just thinking about it! So then we go down and get tickets for the plantation tour. That was interesting and beautiful. And the trees are just, wow, so unbelievable. We had a Mint Julep(my first ever) before we left. And we made the hour trip back to Gulfport. Got back in time for the Nascar race. It was going good until Mikey's tire cut down. That sucked. As soon as that happened, I went to bed.

Sunday we spent with the kiddo. The three of us went out to Stennis Space Center for the tour. That was pretty damn cool. I had no idea that they would take us right out to where they test the rockets and the stuff in the museum was incredible. I highly recommend this freeeeeeeeeee tour! But it did take longer than we had expected. So we stopped at the beach in Pass Christian to play in the sand and water. Found another benchmark-the Pitchers Point one. We stayed out there for awhile. The beaches were the busiest I had personally ever seen them, but not crowded. Thought we had a nice quiet spot, but then a family of about 10 showed up and they had to be the loudest and stupidest people in all of Harrison County. So we took that as our cue to leave. Got back in time for the BBQ to begin. Burgers, dogs and the kids in a kiddie pool. Pretty nice. Just hanging out and resting since we were leaving early the next morning.

Monday morning, the Fourth of July, we left Gulfport at about 6:30am. Not easy leaving my baby there, but she is getting a vacation out of it, and I get a little peace and quiet before it is time for her to head back to school. So anyway, we decide to try a different way back home-up I59 to I20 and then over to I65. Yawn, I will never do that again. It was nothing but trees the whole way. Not that there's anything wrong with that-but it's way too boring for a road trip! We did however stop in Meridian, Miss. along the way and a couple of cemeteries there. One had loads of Confederates and also the King and Queen of Gypsies, Emil and Kelly Mitchell. Kelly Mitchell's grave was covered with Mardi Gras beads and liquor bottles! Cool! And then we went and found the Marion Confederate Cemetery. It was 170 unknown soldiers. Sad. And then made our way home. It rained most of the rest of the way. But we are now home.

May

Well, I have to say May, yes the whole month, pretty well sucked. It's been too busy for much of anything personal.

First of all, that lymph node thing/cat scratch disease-well she had to go in the hospital and they put her under and drained it. That was a few weeks ago and she still has this big hole in her neck. At least most of the swelling is gone now. And the thing is scabbing over. And she has felt ok, and has been able to play in all of her games(except that first one). The bill?? Over $6,000. Joy. Well, I suppose it was worth it, to make that thing go away.

Speaking of her games, well...they haven't won yet. Five more games to go and they have not won a single game. The good news is that they really could care less. Good thing. She has been playing well, that is good too, and she looks forward to playing next year. Cool.

Memorial Day was yesterday. We went to Stones River National Cemetery. Then had a picnic at Henry Horton State Park. Then on to a small Confederate Cemetery near Shelbyville. It was nice. Very interesting also, was the "Hallowed Ground" tour of Stones River we took on Saturday night. Very, very interesting. Walking around to different reenactors in the dark, listening to stories about the soldiers buried there. Very sad too. We also went this weekend and looked for more Confederate soldiers at Evergreen. Found a few, but its a big cemetery. We will look more later the summer.

Speaking of summer, that's right, no school. So she is home now and we will do stuff all summer to keep her busy. Lucky for me she doesn't mind hitting the cemeteries, as long as we hit a few playgrounds too. Smart kid.

Hope to get back on my [almost] everyday writing now-as long as we are home to do it.

One more thing-hubby taking a new job. Whew am I nervous. At least he has weekends off now and that ROCKS! :)

Hump day

Wednesday already?

Well, the lymph problem has yet to really go away. She has an appointment with her real doctor tomorrow. Hopefully they will do something a little more proactve, as I hate hate hate seeing her neck look like it does. I also want her to get better so that she can play Saturday in her first game. She got her first uniform yesterday. She got #6 (cos she is six years old-I suppose next year she will want #7). I always got #1 when I was a kid, because it was the smallest jersey, and I was always the smallest kid on the team. Anyways...

Ya know I'm not normally into something such as "American Idol", but I do think that Anthony Fedorov kid is a cutie! I still wonder if he is any relation to Sergei!! HA!

Wandered around Evergreen Cemetery in Murfreesboro this morning. Found some interesting people, not who I was looking for-but then the mower guys were out in full force and there was a tree-cutting crew taking down a huge one in the exact section I needed to search. Next time... Also stopped by the Burrus Cemetery on Asbury Ln, nobody was home again(although it's not like *I* am gonna knock on someone's door-that is DH's job!). I got a far-off shot of it though.

I also got a cushy cover for my bike seat. Now I can really get to riding it and not worry about my behind hurting for days afterward.

No new "Lost" tonight. No new "Mythbusters". New "CSI New York". New "South Park". Cool. Oh and....HAPPY DANCE that those annoying guys are gone from "Amazing Race"! Now my Rob and Amber can race in peace!! Truly for a change I'd be happy with any of the Final Four teams winning! Yahoo!

What a week

Let's just say it's been busy. Well, ok, I'll say more than that. Until the pizza arrives, then I am out of here again.

I'll go backwards(kind of like CSI this week). Just home from the ER and the kid has Cervical Lymphadenitis. Swelling of her right neck lymph node. It's nasty looking, but she isn't in pain. I pray it goes away soon though. Poor baby. She had her first practice softball game last night and did alright. She is still learning, and so are the other 20 girls who were there.

Spent Thursday checking out some cemeteries down near Fosterville. Some nice ones. But I have had NO time to do anything with the photos or info. I am so so so behind in everything right now.

We planted a tree in our front yard. It is a Yoshino Cherry, just like the ones in DC that bloom in the spring. I can't wait to see it bloom. It is already about 8 ft high, and should get up to 30ft. Did a little more yardwork as well, but I really need to get the tomatoes into bigger containers. And maybe plant the sunflowers as well.

I can't really recall the rest of the week right now. Worried about her neck. And hungry-pizza should be here soon.

Island hopping

Well, Lost totally rocked last night. I was sad to see Boone die, but better than Charlie or Sawyer. And the babby was adorable-although I kept expecting a zoom in to the "666" on its head(or something just as weird).

Tonight is Survivor. And it looks like Ian makes it through another night(according to spoilers). Ian and Tom-I don't think I have ever like a pair of Survivors more than this. Of course, Boston Rob is still by far and away the greatest reality contestant evah!

Repeats on CSI and WaT tonight, but Mikey Waltrip's poker tourney is on Speed at 8pm, so that's cool.

No graving today, too much rain-maybe tomorrow. Spent most of the day reading the TWoP forums about Lost! Boy that is a busy place! And didn't do much else today. Whee. Well, ok I mopped about 2 square feet of the kitchen. Then my arm started hurting again. I am a wuss sometimes. And if pain will get me out of cleaning, by golly Ima doin it!

Rainy day

Why do I want to do nothing on rainy days?? I did some housework, but I just don't feel like doing anything else but sitting here. At least my arm feels better. I have so much to catch up on with Find a Grave and my website, but I just ain't motivated right now. Maybe later.

Amazing Race was ok last night, I am glad Rob and A* came in first. I lurve Rob. The brothers were funny-wish some others had been ousted instead. Tonight is Lost. Can't WAIT!

Just friggin great

I hurt my rt arm somehow playing softball. So now I am pretty much left-handed only on this. Crapola. Think I pulled a muscle or something worse but it hurts like hell.

Spring break over

Well, thank goodness it's over. I finally have the house back to my lonesome again. And I actually feel like doing some housework again. Well-a little anyway. And I can go somewhere if I want. And then I realize that summer vacation is only about 6 weeks away.

And then I get online this morning and find out that all the hard work I did on Saturday on Find A Grave was for naught, as they had a server problem and everything added Saturday was lost. Damnit! I added over 200 photos and who knows how many names. Damn. Shoulda worked on my website instead, but who knew?? Most likely WILL work on MY site until I know that one is A-ok.

Deadwood rocked last night. But it usually does. I love Doc. I love Brad Dourif. sigh.

Hubby brought me the new TV Guide yesterday, with Josh Holloway (Lost) on the cover. He tells me I can have it on one condition-I tear off the cover and throw it away. HA! And then he hands me one with this big-ass sticker right in the middle of Josh's chest. So while at Wally world this morning, I nabbed me a clean version. :)

Chattanooga

Suppose I should finally get around to talking about our trip to Chattanooga this past week. We left Tuesday around noon. Only problem, hubby finishes packing the bag and then LEAVES it on the bed. And when do we notice? When we check into the motel and it ain't there. Ugh. And they never tell you about the construction going on around the motel, so it took us a bit of extra time getting to it. We finally checked in around 3:30pm local time.

Across the road was the Silverdale Confederate Cemetery, so we went to take a look at that. Very interesting. Mostly 155 unknown soldiers who died from disease. Sad that they are unknown.

We took off for downtown and the aquarium. Ate a nasty-and-cost-too-much burger at the little place next to the Aquarium. Then on to the tour. It was pretty good, as usual. I still get so irritated by morons who act like there are no other people there but them-hogging the cool stuff(piranhas) or stepping in front of photos. Why are so many people idiots when they are in public??

After that we headed for the Confederate Cemetery in downtown, but damnit it was locked up, and so was the really old Citizens Cemetery next to it. Damn. So we made our way to the National Cemetery. Beautiful place there. Saw the Andrews Raiders memorial-that is a very cool monument. Took a few photos there as the sun went down. And then headed back to the motel(after stopping by a WallyWorld to get some supplies-since ours were at HOME). Ordered a pizza, and watched American Idol and Amazing Race. I LOVE how my kid HATES most of the music they sing. She loved "Independence day" by Carrie, but the rest-she kept hitting the mute button!

Next morning, breakfast (of Champions) at Mickey D's. And up to See Rock City. Well, it wasn't open yet, so we drove over to see the top of the Railway Incline and the awesome view from there. Then back to Rock City. It was excellent of course, I hope the kid remembers it this time around. I wasn't as nervous as I was last time at the high spots. Maybe the "fear of heights" is going away...naah!

Then onto Point Park, Civil War park. Nice little park. Wish we had more time to explore. Moron kids kept following us everywhere! We could even hear them back down the path "I see them! There they are-hurry up!" Gads! WHY?? We finally lost them and then split for Ruby Falls.

Ruby Falls was just incredible!! Great tour guide(named Dan, by the way-he rocked!). Beautiful sites, and the waterfall at the end-there almost aren't words. Awesome is a good one. Highest inside waterfall east of the Mississipp? I think. If it is, and Fall Creek Falls is the highest "outside" one, then I have seen them both-and they are both awesome!!

I had really wanted to visit a couple of other cemeteries in the area, but hubby was really starting to feel bad, and so we went home. Good thing too I guess-cos he hit the ER when we got home and found out he has Strep Throat. Ick.

Anyway, great little trip, although many of my pix didn't turn out as good as I had hoped. And the 2 cemeteries I wanted to visit were closed. And we forgot our suitcase. And then there are the drivers on the interstate that I want to complain about...

WHY is it when you are headed up a hill, and the semi's are going 15 mph, and then one decides he wants to pass them all and so he pulls out RIGHT in front of you going 17mph! So you are stuck behind that moron for most of the way up the hill. Grrr. Or the people who come up behind you like crazy fast, get over, and then stop at your back side and don't pass. Then you come up on a slower vehicle and have to get off the cruise control because that idiot won't get past you. And then the ones you have to pass cos they are going too slow, and as soon as you pass them they suddenly remember the speed limit and decide to race you to get their "spot back"! I love driving, and I *RARELY* go over the speed limit, but I just hate the other idiots out there on the road who apparently FORGOT all of the rules in the rulebook after they got their license.

Ok, I feel better now.

Old graves found on Almaville site being cleared for schools

Old graves found on Almaville site being cleared for schools - Wednesday, 03/23/05

That's right, they found the elusive Morton Cemetery that I had wanted to search for. I had been a couple times before, but due to "no trespassing" signs, I had held back. (not that that stops me all the time ;)) And had no idea that this was going to be the location for the new schools here. I had figured it would be more subdivisions(as it is surrounded by). I had also heard that the new schools were going to be along Almaville Rd. So I kept driving up and down Almaville Rd looking for construction. Then the newspaper story hits, and it is on Channel 2 news. Well, at least they are going to treat them with respect and not just pave over them. I hate that they have to move them at all, but unfortunately that is progress. We have a quickly growing county, and with over 700 little graveyards all over-it is eventual that this will happen. At least care is being taken to remember them. Good deal there.

Well finally

Couldn't get in yesterday. Not that I'm in any rush. Got sick again last week-damn Sonic food. Decent weekend as Mikey finished 7th in both races. Too bad the Jr fans think its only because he was driving Jrs old cars. Shut the fuck up.

The kid had her first softball practice yesterday. So cute, she had so much fun. Its all 5- and 6-yr olds. But she was about the only one doing any hustling for the ball in the field. I'm sure the others will get better. She hit pretty good too. Her and another littler girl were knocking the crud outa the ball. I can't wait to see her in her little uniform. Not gonna yell at her and hope she is better than me and "live through her" blah blah blah, but I don't want to act like she does nothing wrong. She will learn to lose gracefully, but LOSING is part of life. These people who don't want to fail kids or whatever because they don't want to hurt their feelings ARE hurting our youth. Anyways...

"Deadwood" rocked Sunday night. I love this show.

Found some great graveyards in the eastern part of the county on Friday. One kinda spooky one too-this damn rooster or whatever was like screaming! the few minutes I was there. It didn't sound like a rooster-it sounded like someone screaming. I didn't stay long there, but I really want to go back soon-with someone! Found another one in Wilson Co that is awesomely old and had Revolutionary War soldiers and some great carvings.

Save Terry Schiavo, please God. Take her quickly or get her away from that ass of a "husband".

Sicker than a dog

Yesterday sucked. I couldn't even get out of bed. And I hate throwing up more than just about anything. At least I feel better today. And "Amazing Race" was awesome last night.(I'm glad I was able to stay awake for it) Rob is a STUD and I just adore him!! Ooh and I got the TV Guide today with him on the cover. Yummy. I have so much to do now, to catch up. And "Lost" is a repeat tonight, that sucks. But NEW "South Park" YEAH! And a new "Mythbusters".

Went by one new graveyard today down in Murfreesboro. One that hadn't been transcribed yet to my knowledge. I love finding things like that, things that may not have been seen by anyone that cares in quite a long time. Makes me feel good. I wish I could find a word for that. Anyways...

A new start

Ok, I downloaded the Firefox browser on saturday. I like it fine so far, but my "back" button on my mouse doesn't work anymore. I'm still trying to find the Google toolbar to add on so I can get my Blogger button back up there too. But so far, so good.

Deadwood premiered last night. A bit too dark for the first epi back, and not enough Doc, but I am certain it will get better.

I'm tired right now though. Too much work to do, including cleaning up pukey sheets from the kid who got sick around midnight. Joy.

Need to get some things done on my site, and then work on Find A Grave some more. I hope it rains all day long.

Beautiful day for gravehunting

After it looked like it was going to be a cloudy bust day for B having the day off, but after spending an hour in walmart, we came out to blue skies. Found one old graveyard in Lavergne. Many many unmarked graves in this one. So sad. Then onto the Batey Cemetery south of Smyrna. People next door had a TON of dogs and they did not shutup the whole time. Luckily there were only two marked graves at this one(and only four at the first one). Then onto the Clark Cemetery in Murfreesboro, not far from the Stones River battlefield. Only three graves at this one, at the end of a cul-de-sac. At least this one is sort of kept up(grass mowed) by the neighbors. That's cool. I love finding the little cemeteries that look like noone has visited in years. I feel so sorry for them, and feel like I connect somehow. I feel like I am "called" to them now. I know that probably sounds silly, but its true. And I feel like an archaeologist searching for and finding "lost treasure". That is a cool feeling. Anyhoo...good day. Topped off with a Reeses Sonic Blast. Yum. Good day.

Another day

It's beautiful outside but I don't feel like going out. I need to preplant my tomotoes, but I don't feel like it. I need to get rid of the blahs. I should go for a walk.

Lost was excellent last night. Charlie is so cute. But who knows how long til the next new episode. Ugh.

Jeopardy! in this new mass-tournament. Bah-just get to Ken Jennings already! I want Ken to be on every day.

Three more days until DEADWOOD! Hell yeah!!

No good Nascar this weekend. Bah.

Days til Deadwood

I have failed to mention how f'n excited I am that Deadwood will be back on Sunday. Five more days and I can't f'n wait!!!

Snow day

Haha. Snow day. A few flakes and we get to sit for an extra two hours to wait for the school bus. And then I drove around in the flurries looking for some more graveyards down towards 840. I think there are a few down there, but I just can't find them alone while driving. I did find one in another subdivision I had been looking for. Must have not been on the right street cos its right there. And then more time on research. Fun, but it hopefully proved fruitful as I think I may have found a few more cemeteries nearby on the zoning maps. Now I just need to get to them. I thought I couldn't wait for Winter to visit the cemeteries without worrying about weeds and bugs but I think now I just want it a bit warmer so I can get outside and do some walking.

Amazing Race tonight!! YEAH! Go Rob and Amber!!! Nothing else on tonight. But one more day until another awesome LOST!!!!

Starting off

First post. Just testing out right now. Have to have a look around the new place before I do anything crazy.

Well, I think I have a few of the things figured out. Listening to Glenn Beck now. He is talking about the Oscars of course. I watched. It was ok except for the moron host who just HAD to go there with the political talk. He wasn't all that funny. At least the tub of lard wasn't nominated so I didn't have to put up with that crap. Was happy for Hillary Swank although I am not really sure why.

Anything really last night was better than dealing with the aftermath of the Cup race. Another F#$%^&* blown engine for Michael. At least "God's gift to nascar" had a bad day too with his blown tires. But friggin Rausch won and I can't stand them at all. Expecially Whifflehead. Crap. No hockey and the Cup season is starting out crappy. Titans sucked. Kats are 1-4 now. My sports life sucks right now. Oh well. Should just spend more time on my local hsitory stuff instead. I might actually get a good section of my site done. Need to buy a new domain name I think. Time to start all over, get rid of the hocky stuff and start over. Yep. Except the address is probably going to be in the new book and I don't know if I have time for them to change it. Crap-just thought of that. Oh well. Guess I am stuck with this damn address for another year. Pah.
